Urban planning and COVID-19: lessons learned and future challenges

The coronavirus has drastically undermined our most basic beliefs about community and urban life. Architects and urban planners long have been building cities for centuries out of surpluses of agricultural products and technological innovations after the Industrial Revolution. However, COVID-19 will reshape urban design around the world, and now is an evident opportunity to reform urban planning and design to create sustainable and resilient communities. Through this interview with Martha Thorne, we will discuss how Covid-19 has shocked the architectural practice, and we will examine how urban planning can be transformed and adapted to make cities safer and healthier.
