The number of surveillance cameras in public spaces is increasing. By 2021 there could be more than one billion cameras worldwide. In London alone there are currently more than 627,000 surveillance cameras, according to a study by the tech magazine Comparitech.

Data protectionists are critical of the growing CCTV network. But video analyses are an important milestone on the way to the Smart City, Dr. Alireza Ghods and Lorenz Muck are convinced, for example with regard to intelligent mobility.

Together with Omid Mogharian, they founded the Hamburg-based tech start-up Natix in 2020, and developed an artificial intelligence (AI) that processes video data decentrally while anonymizing sensitive data in real time.
